The Durham Region Astronomical Association will be participating in Whitby Central Library's "How To In 10" Festival in which people can learn a new skill in about 10 minutes. At our booth, we will help you assemble your own planisphere and teach you how to use it to identify which constellations and stars are visible on any given date and time.
The Whitby Central Library is on the south side of Dundas St at Henry St.

From 10 am to 3 pm, the Durham Region Astronomical Association will participate at UOIT's annual Science Rendezvous with an information booth on all things astronomical plus information on our association for those interested in joining us as we pursue our interests in astronomy. If the weather is clear, we plan on having a solar-filtered telescope in Polonsky Commons offering views of incredible sunspots and prominences.
Science Rendezvous is held in the Energy Systems and Nuclear Science Research Centre at the UOIT, 2000 Simcoe St North, Oshawa

Exo-planets - The Search For Another Earth Presented by Dr. Rupinder Brar, Senior Lecturer of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology
Dr. Brar will give an update on the search for exo-planets - planets orbiting other stars in the Milky Way Galaxy.
What's Up in the Night Sky Prepared by Jeff Dutton, Director of the Members' Observing Committee, and presented by Brian Boddy
Brian takes us on a tour on objects suitable for observing in May.

The Durham Region Astronomical Association invites everyone with an interest in the stars to stargaze with us at Lakeview Park on Friday evening, May 22. We will have telescopes set up along the footpath overlooking the lake on the eastern side of the park, offering views of the crescent Moon, brilliant Venus, giant Jupiter and it large moons, and deep sky wonders. This event is open to everyone and free of charge.
If you have a telescope but need some instruction on using it, bring it along and we will be happy to help.
Weather Update: We will have clear skies Friday evening, so this event will proceed as scheduled. Please note that it could be windy and chilly this evening, so you will want to dress warmly (e.g. winter coat, toque, gloves).
