Enhanced Star Formation and Black Hole Activity in Interacting Galaxies Presented by Dave Patton, Trent University Department of Physics.
Simulations of galaxy mergers predict that a close encounter between two galaxies can trigger the formation of new stars, and can also activate supermassive black holes in the centres of these galaxies. The presenter will describe recent work with his collaborators, in which they have been able to confirm these predictions use a large survey of interacting galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey.
The Whitby Central Library is on the south side of Dundas St at Henry St.
