Witness History! You are invited to see an incredible sight through safe solar-filtered telescopes: the Transit of Venus. We will have many solar-filtered telescopes available to give everyone a chance to see the black silhouette of the planet Venus as it passes in front of the Sun. This is a very rare event. The next Venus transit will not occur for another 105 years, so you won't want to miss it!
There will also be live internet streaming of the transit indoors, giving those unable to look through a telescope an opportunity to witness the event, and to serve as an alternate way to see the transit in case we have cloudy weather.
Venus will begin to enter the face of the Sun a few minutes after 6:00 pm, and will still be transiting as the Sun sets, around 8:40. After sunset, weather permitting, we will look at planets and stars, until 10 pm.
Anderson Collegiate and Vocational Institute is located at 400 Anderson St. in Whitby.
