In conjunction with the Town of Whitby, The Durham Region Astronomical Association will be hosting a Star Party at Heydenshore Pavilion to participate in Blackout Day. This is to remember the blackout in 2003 in which the night skies were once again observed with little light pollution. The Count Me In! Community Challenge have organized this friendly challenge to see who can get the highest per capita pledges to the Count Me In! Challenge in their municipality and who can get the highest reduction in energy consumption on Auguat 14. So go ahead and pledge your support at www.countmeinontario.ca. People wishing to participate must register on the website.
Jupiter and its attending moons will be the main feature along with Globular clusters of up to 1 million stars in a tight ball shape, planetary nebula which looks like a ring of smoke around a star that has blown off much of its atmosphere and other galaxies.
There will be indoor displays until the skies darken sufficiently around 9 - 9:15 pm.
